The PNOE metabolic test is a non-invasive procedure that measures a person's metabolism by analyzing their breath to determine how many calories they burn and how much oxygen they use while at rest and during exercise. The test has two parts: a resting test and an active test:

Resting test
The person breathes into a PNOE device for 10 minutes while resting. The machine analyzes the breathing and provides data on how many calories the person burns and how they use fuel, such as fats or carbs. To prepare for the resting test, the person should fast for 12 hours before the test, avoid alcohol and caffeine for 12 hours, and avoid moderate or vigorous exercise for 24 hours.

Active test
The person exercises on a treadmill or exercise bike for 15 minutes, gradually increasing their activity level until they reach peak output, and then cooling down. The test measures the person's calorie burn, lung health, and cardiovascular function.
